Boot Hill Museum opens its Guns that Won the West upgrade, the first facelift in 20 years, funded largely by local effort and costing about 15000. The exhibit features sections on frontiersmen and outlaws, cases for Winchester Colt Sharps, and a diorama with the Long Branch Saloon.

Fort Hays Pratt merger rejected by state Board of Regents
The Kansas Board of Regents declined pursuing an affiliation between Fort Hays State University and Pratt Community College citing need for more information. The plan to make Pratt a satellite campus of Fort Hays was shelved as a state model for aligning community colleges with six state universities will be developed instead. Regent Fred Kerr cautioned there is a long way to go, while Fort Hays President Ed Hammond called the talks beneficial for both sides.
