Wind line move in Kansas could cost utility customers millions
Kansas regulators hear testimony on moving a wind energy transmission line from a Dodge City area route to a revised path eastward, a plan supported by Westar Energy and wildlife agencies but opposed by Chermac Energy which projects costs rising to $567 million over the line’s life and potential harm to the lesser prairie chicken and whooping cranes. The decision, due by June 28, hinges on habitat impact and overall project costs across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
