Garden City graduates celebrate first fire science majors and GEDs
More than 200 grads in Garden City cross the GCCC stage with three new fire science majors. Scot Rose, a Garden City firefighter just back from Iraq with the 467th Engineering Detachment, described culture shock as he completed coursework via Internet from Baghdad. Bertha Trejo, 50, earned her GED while working nights at Tyson Fresh Meats, aiming to inspire her four children and pursue college to become a translator. Garden City residents welcomed soldiers warmly, countering fears of antiwar protests.
