Kansas City Retail Clerks Strike Over Contract Rejection
Retail clerks walked out Sunday after rejecting a three year contract between the Retail Store Employees Union and three major grocery chains. The strike covered 38 Milgram stores and may expand to A&P and Safeway. Vendors say the wage offer would have made Kansas City clerks highly paid, but part timers cited no job security. Milgram has hired 500 replacements after a four week strike by meat cutters.
