Fight Against Teen Pregnancy Gains Ground In Kansas
The Guttmacher Institute notes long term declines in teen pregnancy and birth rates in the United States, with May marked as National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. KDHE data show Kansas teens ages 15 to 17 and 18 to 19 well below Healthy People 2020 targets, though Kansas birth rates remain higher than the national average. Finney County ranks 10th in the state for teen pregnancy, at 33.2 per 1,000, with a history of higher rates in 1993. ABC Pregnancy Care Center in Finney County provides abstinence education, testing, counseling, and services, emphasizing reduced high school dropout and consequences of early pregnancy.
