Gas Service refunds as rate case talks continue in Kansas

Gas Service Co. in Topeka agrees to refunds totaling about 9 million dollars to customers following Kansas Corporation Commission pressure. Aimed at offsetting interim rate hikes, the proposal would credit residential bills while sending checks to industrial customers. A separate 4.5 to 5 million temporary increase is debated, with hearings set for August 10 on a larger 17.2 million permanent rise. The dispute involves how to allocate the interim hike across customer classes amid negotiations before final commission action. Gas Service serves about 400,000 customers across 212 Kansas communities including Wichita and Kansas City.
