Land Locked Laos Vital Due to Geographic Site
Laos sits at the center of Southeast Asia as a land-locked buffer between Red China and North Vietnam to the north and Thailand and South Vietnam to the southwest. Its rugged jungles and lack of modern roads leave it vulnerable. despite U S aid since 1955, the Communists control much of the land. A fall to Communist forces would threaten neighboring Thailand and South Vietnam and heighten regional tensions.
