Court limits grand jury power in abortion probe
Kansas Supreme Court trims the Sedgwick County grand jury’s reach in subpoenas to Dr. George Tiller and Attorney General Steve Six while preserving access. It sends the case to district court with guidelines to prevent fishing expeditions and protect patient privacy by allowing removal of identifying information. The court declined to quash subpoenas or strike down the petition law, but requires a balancing of state interests and patients’ privacy.
