Senate defeat stalls Dodge City casino bid but fuels comeback
Southwest Kansas advocates say a narrow 21 to 18 Senate loss on a broad casino amendment leaves room to revive the plan next year. Dodge City leaders proposed a 1000-slot casino with a hotel and convention center to aid economic development and fund Boot Hill maintenance. Proposals would also support local government and tourism groups in Finney County. Geary County has a similar plan. Critics cite gambling growth and regulation concerns as blockers.
