Army Quinine Tablets Burned at St Louis Depot
Maj. J. V. Huffman of the St. Louis Army Medical depot reports 11 000 bottles of quinine sulfate tablets were burned last month as surplus disposal proved uneconomical. Each bottle held 1 000 five grain tablets, cost 28 050 dollars, current value 7 920 dollars. No known acquisition date or remaining usable quantity. Replacement by more effective drugs reduced Army demand, with no federal agency demand or surplus stockpiling need. 162 lots required separate analyses, making surplus sale impractical. Burnings occurred at Granite City depot on April 13 and 21.
