Garden City to buy stake in Dogwood plant and Sunflower capacity
Garden City commissioners voted to secure future power by purchasing a 30 MW equity stake in the Dogwood Energy plant near Kansas City, MO, financed with a $16.32 million bond and $815,000 cash. They also will buy 5 MW in 2019 2020 rising to 30 MW in 2021 2025 from Sunflower Electric, costing about $9.14 million over seven years. The deals position the city in a minority but long term power supply, with Dogwood funded via KMEA and Sunflower backed by local presence and staff. The panel also approved a fireworks discharge waiver and a $67,391 emergency solutions grant application.
