Smarty Jones Captures Hearts as Derby Winner Amped for Triple Crown
AP writer notes the public’s fascination with Smarty Jones after his Kentucky Derby victory. The Pennsylvania bred colt faces a chase for the Triple Crown with Preakness and Belmont on the horizon, amid questions of whether he can sustain the magic and defy past droughts. Roy Chapman, an elderly Philadelphia dealer, backs the horse while turning down big offers, signaling the unlikely journey ahead for the crowd-pleasing favorite.

Snyder laments poor Purple White spring game at K State
Kansas State coach Bill Snyder called the 27-3 first-team win the worst spring game since 1989 as 12 returning starters proved behind schedule. QB duel between Dylan Meier and Allen Webb remained unsettled amid sacks and injuries. Running backs Alsup and Clayton shared carries while Sproles missed due to his mother’s death. Five fumbles four missed field goals and a botched punt marked the day.
