Budget deal looms as Kansas lawmakers push through night
In Topeka the House debated Senate Bill 249 to fill a roughly 250 million dollar shortfall with assumed governor cuts and revenue expectations. The plan preserves K-12 funding while shifting higher ed burdens and delays a 100 million pension payment, with final passage not guaranteed. If enacted, it would leave about 27 million this year and 81 million next year. both hinges on Brownback’s anticipated cuts and revenue performance.
