Miniature pianos reveal a long family crafts tradition
A Finney County display showcases about 20 hand crafted mini pianos harpsichords and organs created by Tom Klassen. The 17 inch to 1 by 5 inch replicas include 1825 Schleip Lyraflugel 1816 Clementi upright grand and an 1809 Viennese sewing box piano. Carolyn Klassen longtime Garden City Community College piano and organ instructor notes the pieces evolved from holiday gifts into a family tradition begun with a cardboard harp before growing into a formal collection now on view at The Front Door Gallery through late winter.
