Exhibition not meaningless Mets Yanks battle in spring tilt
Yankees beat Mets 6-5 as Sid Fernandez struggles with wildness in the first inning. Ed Whitson allows four scoreless frames before the Mets rally in the fifth. Steinbrenner praised his young players and said the games matter, predicting a October rubber match in the World Series. Other spring results included Toronto's 11-4 win over Cincinnati and Montreal’s 9-6 over Baltimore.
