Gov George Docking said today the state’s corporate income taxes and possible new taxes remain under study as the legislature considers a special session. No conclusions on tax measures were announced. In nearby Kansas City market notes, cattle and hog prices moved varies while sheep and lambs showed steady to firm trends across the region.

Australia supply minister Athol Townley today brushed aside complaints that visiting American Air Force jets disturbed Brisbane churchgoers. Townley defended the visit as routine and necessary for allied defense cooperation.

The Weather Bureau reviewed winter in the central plains noting record cold and sun shortage. A January 21 blizzard dumped 15 inches on Kansas City, the heaviest in 50 years, with widespread snow from Kansas to Lake Michigan. The week ending Feb 18 saw over 20 degrees below normal in the Mississippi valley and below freezing temperatures persisted for two weeks through Feb 20. Winds up to 50 mph created 15-foot drifts in Western Kansas.
County police report Donald Eugene Mitchell involved in an overread incident with a $15 dispute. No further details available.

Louis Frank Wilson, 84, longtime Great Bend resident, died yesterday at his daughter Mrs. C. A. Brack’s home in Garden City after moving there three months ago. Born October 9, 1873 in Illinois, he was married to a Congregational church member and survived by three daughters Mrs. C. R. Brack of Garden City, Mrs. C. A. Keller of Bilwood, Mrs. H. C. Wallbridge of Longmont, Colo., and two grandchildren. Funeral services are set at Bryant-Fryberger mortuary in Great Bend with Phillips Funeral Home handling local arrangements. further details are pending.
Wayne Foster, secretary treasurer of the National Farm Loan association in Garden City, announced a reduction of interest rates on new Federal Land Bank loans from 5% to 4.5%. The 5% rate becomes retroactive for loans made after December 1, 1957. The National Farm Loan office serves Finney Hasell and Grant counties, backing long term loans for farmers and ranchers.
