Lawmakers endorse cut in their own pay
Lawmakers in Topeka approved a 10 percent cut in their daily session pay for the next year as part of an amended budget bill. Rep. Bill Otto urged broader cuts, including for higher paid state employees, but the pay reduction was the only amendment approved on a voice vote before further action. Democrats criticized the approach as arbitrary and argued staff time costs, while Otto defended trimming funds to shield priorities like public schools and services for the disabled.
