Kansas lawmakers seek more study on corporate farming law

Kansas lawmakers on Friday ordered further scrutiny of the eight decade old corporate farming statute. The House Agriculture and Natural Resources panel will obtain a judicial council review while an interim Senate committee will study the issue ahead of the 2014 session. Supporters include the Kansas Farm Bureau who say removing barriers could boost the economy, though concerns persist about out of state ownership and counties losing veto power over swine and dairy operations. Secretary of Agriculture Dale Rodman warned repealing all at once may take more than one session.
