State engineer says contractor liable for bridge damage
Kansas DOT engineer Kevin Zimmer said Lee Construction of Garden City is responsible for about 134000 dollars in repairs after a Feb 13 incident in which a tractor trailer carrying a track hoe hit the Hall Street overpass near Hays. The boom pierced the bridge creating a 45 foot gap. The bridge remains closed as plans for a new overpass are designed and bids will be sought. The driver, Michael M Conley, was cited for a permit violation for driving on I 70 without authorization. No comments from Lee Construction or Conley were available.

DeLay charges may be reinstated by Texas appeals court
