Experts from five universities reviewed lower sugar versions of six major cereals including Froot Loops Frosted Flakes and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They found calories carbohydrates fat and other nutrients nearly identical to full sugar equivalents with only sugar amounts reduced.

The cereals cut sugar with refined carbs to preserve crunch, and officials from General Mills Kellogg's and Post could not explain a health benefit yet say the change offers more consumer choice. Health experts warn the changes do not meaningfully cut calories or nutrients.
