Amtrak seeks to keep Northeast profits and boost funding
Amtrak asks Congress to let it retain profits from the high traffic Washington to Boston Northeast Corridor and to raise subsidies to 1.6 billion dollars next year. Chairman Tony Coscia warns that current funding strains risk major regional infrastructure failure with nationwide economic impact. The 457 mile corridor serves Boston to Washington with New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and dense New Jersey and Connecticut suburbs.
