Wichita AirTran subsidy in jeopardy amid job growth push
Kansas officials urge a jobs strategy to sustain air service as AirTran faces leaving Wichita when its 4.5 million local subsidy ends. January 2003 Finney County and Garden City unemployment hover near 3.1 to 3.5 percent while county jobs peak at 17,556, the highest since December 2000. Increased employment could revive air travel, boost Main Street commerce, and ease local taxes. Officials call for focused job creation to stabilize service and growth.
