Garden City Lee Richardson Zoo to relocate aging elephants

Zoo director Kristi Newland told Garden City Commission the difficult decision to seek proposals from qualified zoos to take custody of the two aging elephants Missy and Kimba ages 33 and 46. The move aims to preserve social welfare as the zoo expects to have only one elephant in five years. Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo and the Zoo Advisory Board backed the plan, with FOLRZ pledging efforts to bring elephants back within a decade.

Kansans could carry concealed guns without permit under bill

The House Federal and State Affairs Committee approved a measure allowing adults over 21 to carry hidden handguns or rifles in public after July 1 without training or a state permit. The existing permit system would stay for those seeking concealed carry in other states, and some restrictions remain for federally or state prohibited individuals.
