Water worries spark Kansas groundwater planning effort
Kansas farmers and officials gathered in Larned and across the state to address groundwater declines and quality. Big Bend Prairie irrigation remains near balance, while concerns include oilfield disposal wells and salinity east of Pratt. Basin teams will draft local goals for the governor’s 2015 water plan amid calls for local control.

Southwest Acorn Club Spring Luncheon and Meetings
Southwest members met March 9 for a spring luncheon at Ward's Garden Cafe. Nine members shared a Sarah Polk fact, planning yearbooks for 2015-16, and hosting dates. A May 4 start date was set for first and third Mondays at McDonalds. Leah Martinek spoke March 2 on Sarah Polk. roll call featured Julia Tyler. An Oct 5 start will inaugurate a new club year with officer installation. Betty Schreibvogel led senior center pinochle results, with Marian Wilson second and Neva Maxfield third. The Finney County Genealogical Society meets Saturday 10:30 to 12:30 in the Kansas Room of the Finney County Public Library. Jan Coulter presents Mapping Your Ancestors Movements. Visitors welcome. The Happy Hustlers 4-H Club met March 1. roll call responses centered on happiness. Elly Murrell spoke on Terracotta Army, Meara Bergstrom demonstrated Orange Julius, and Symone Simmons and Rian Linenberger led singing. Barb Goss was birthday honoree. Potato bar supper planned with toppings, dessert, and clean-up. blue ribbon for 4-H Laugh In skit. Regional Club Days drew members to Dodge City on March 7. Retirement reception for Barbara Addison set for 4–6 p.m. Monday in the Grandstand Meeting Room. Next club meeting 5:30 p.m. April 12.
