Other denominations find new life in old Catholic churches
In the Boston area, Haitian and other congregations have moved into former Catholic churches closed in a 2004 archdiocese reorganization. New Covenant Christian Church of Cambridge now meets at the former St. Joseph Church in Waltham. The sale of 26 properties yielded housing, other faiths, or community uses, while some buildings remain tied up in appeals. The shift reflects broader church consolidation, with Catholic closures amid declining attendance and priest shortages.
