Man admits to slaying that sent brother to prison

DMX to speak against animal cruelty under sentence

Rapper DMX Earl Simmons will record public service radio announcements for the Humane Society of the United States as part of a Bergen County sentence for animal cruelty. He received a year of probation and fines totaling 15,000 plus 2,000 for related counts, with production costs set at about 20,000 and a $13,000 animal cruelty fine. The plea deal dropped weapons and child endangerment counts against his wife Tashera, and prosecutors noted the case stemmed from a 1999 incident in Teaneck involving weapons and pit bulls. Simmons must also donate 15,000 to the Bergen County SPCA for materials. He remains active in music and film projects.
