Courage in Afghanistan A Marine medic earns Silver Star amid heavy firefight
Peter Gould of Syracuse, a Naval Petty Officer and corpsman, fought through a July battle in Afghanistan where his unit faced massed Taliban fire. Despite severe injuries including shrapnel to the face and neck, he helped rescue teammates, supervised CPR, and sustained multiple surgeries. His unit suffered 17 dead and about 50 wounded. Gould plans to leave the service in June and pursue college and medical school.

De Anda murder trial pushed to July in Finney County
The Garden City man Joaquin De Anda 19 faces first degree murder rape and aggravated criminal sodomy charges in the December 2008 death of Julia Quintana 16. The trial, moved from March to July 7 to 22 with jury selection July 7 8 and testimony slated July 11 through 22, due to discovery and testing delays. A May 2 pre-trial conference is set.
