Holcomb approves higher utility franchise fees
Holcomb City Council voted February 10 to raise franchise fees for Wheatland Electric Pioneer Communications and Midwest Energy Inc to 4 percent of gross revenue. The change, effective after newspaper publication, targets only city customers and is expected to add roughly $30,000 to revenue based on 2009 figures. City officials cited historically low rates and noted potential burden on customers if higher fees were used. The council plans to reconvene March 24.
