Senate bill trims drug treatment release plan in Topeka
A Kansas drug sentencing bill faces changes as Sen John Wratil and Greta Goodwin propose removing the provision that would grant early release to about 300 inmates. Gov Kathleen Sebelius opposes partial release while supporting treatment. The measure would divert nonviolent offenders with a single drug possession conviction to community treatment, saving prison beds and potentially $9.2 million for treatment.
