Forum turns students into political fanatics
Garden City High School juniors Melissa Marsh and R C Marsh attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy in Washington D C to explore government issues and potential careers. Melissa chose diplomacy, aiming to be a political analyst. R C chose intelligence, inspired by CIA and Secret Service talks. The trip coincided with Sept 11 events, and a crisis drill had students role play as White House press secretary and Speaker of the House. Both students say the experience increased attention to national and local politics and hope peers engage more in civic life.
