Powell's Popularity Faces Severe Test
Washington AP reports Rep. Adam Clayton Powell faces a tough House show of support as criticism over his travel and committee spending grows. A House Administration subcommittee slashed Powell's committee budget from 897000 to 200000 for 1963, and further cuts were proposed by Rep. Landrum. The showdown follows calls that Powell sought excessive funds for an investigative task and amid leadership pressure to avoid a large floor dispute.
