Cedar Bluff water bill gets Senate panel hearing
A Kansas Senate panel heard testimony but took no action on a bill to bar Cedar Bluff Reservoir water releases except for flood control, contractual obligations with Russell, or maintenance needs. The measure would shift 5400 acre feet to wildlife and parks from the reservoir's recharge pool and affect downstream rights held by Hays, irrigators, and feedlots. Critics warn it could undermine water rights and recreation while regulators seek compromise.
