4-H Animal ID Pilot Uses Ear Tags in Cattle
Finney County 4-H groups will join a pilot program to track livestock electronically using left ear tags that emit a low frequency signal readable to locate animals and monitor health. George Teagarden announced the initiative before about 45 members and parents in Garden City, noting limited current use and a national rollout planned by 2010 amid concerns raised by the 2003 mad cow outbreak and related vCJD fears.
