Kansas Delays 92 Million School Aid Payments
Kansas delayed 92 million dollars in aid to public schools as half of general state aid payments to 289 districts were withheld on March 1 due to a cash crunch. Deputy Education Commissioner Dale Dennis cautioned the second half may arrive early next week. The move follows February tax collections falling 11.5 million short of forecasts, intensifying budget pressures as Brownback’s administration and lawmakers remain at an impasse over spending cuts. The delay prompts concern among educators and lawmakers about reliability of ongoing aid.
