Ocean energy to power future U S floating plants
TRW Systems Inc and three university teams study ocean power as an energy source by 2000. Concrete floating stations 17 stories high would use hot surface water and cold deep water to heat and compress ammonia, spinning turbines to produce electricity. Prototype cost around 210 million for 100 megawatts, with potential production costs near 1000 per megawatt.
