Rick Long and Bigfoot visited Mitchell Fischer of Mitchell Kansas through the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a monster truck appearance at Finney County Fairgrounds. Police still seeks seven more officers sworn in mid July
The department plans to hire seven more officers to be sworn in mid July as part of a training program for college student aides aged under 21. Aides work at $9 per hour, writing reports and assisting with minor incidents while not issuing tickets or making arrests. Officer candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be 21, have no felony or domestic crime history, be a US citizen, and pass exams and background checks. Officers start at about $13.99 per hour with benefits, 12 vacation days, nine holidays, sick leave, and a retirement plan through Kansas Police and Fire. the department has 51 full-time officers of a 58-allowable roster.
