OPEC raises base oil price to 18 to 25 with surcharges
OPEC today set a new base price range of 18 to 25.50 dollars per barrel and allowed surcharges up to 2 dollars, capping total price at 33.50. The move, the largest since 1974, could lift U.S. gasoline and heating oil costs by about a cent per gallon per 5 percent base rise. Ministers expect a Geneva meeting in late September to review prices. U.S. energy and treasury officials gauge import bill impacts.
