Two Kansas State Industrial Reformatory inmates escaped late yesterday in a pickup marked KSIR. Capt. Harold Ayers identified the runaways as Ronald K. Allen 22 and Larry Joe Johnson 17. They were assigned to a trash hauling detail outside the walls. the truck had a full tank of gas. Allen was received from McPherson on Sept 6 1955 for assault with intent to kill and Johnson was committed from Norton last February for grand larceny.

Hatcher Says He Was Delayed Filing For State Supreme Court
TOPEKA Earl Hatcher of Topeka claims an inadvertent interruption caused his filing delay for Position No 6 on the Kansas State Supreme Court. The State Canvassing Board rejected his declaration after it was filed just moments past the June 20 noon deadline. Hatcher testified he was in line behind another candidate when the deadline passed and that secretary of state Paul Shanahan indicated he had about a minute left. He asserted he finished the paperwork roughly 30 seconds after the deadline.
