Attorneys square off over school funding in Kansas

In Topeka, state Supreme Court justices heard arguments over a $541 million phased-in funding increase for public schools. State lawyers argued the plan adequately funds schools and ends the 1999 suit, while district plaintiffs from Dodge City and Salina urged more money, noting nearly $1 billion more is needed. The hearing lasted three hours as justices explored whether funding has an end point and if the Legislature could absorb more dollars. Justice Rosen pressed whether funding could be increased further.
