House Rejects Farm Bill Amid Food Stamp Cuts Debates
The House defeated a five year farm bill worth about 80 billion dollars annually for food stamps and work requirements. Only 195 members voted yes with 62 Republicans against and 24 Democrats in favor. The evenly split support reflected Democratic misgivings over cuts that could remove up to two million recipients. Cantor and Hoyer blamed the opposing party for the loss as the measure failed to clear partisan lines.
