Naab pleads in arson plot and drug charges in Garden City

Court records show Naab pleads to charges surrounding an alleged murder for hire plan to burn the Russell home with occupants inside. He faces terms for attempted aggravated arson and arson plus diazepam sales linked to a December 2004 undercover sting. Police connected earlier arson attempts at the Russells’ residence to the case. Naab was arrested December 31, 2004, at 212 Washington Ave Apt 7 after a six month investigation by the Garden City Police and Fire departments. The case included multiple Molotov incidents at the Russells’ home and a December drug sale of 69 diazepam pills to an undercover officer.

Kansan lawmakers weigh tax options to fund schools

Legislators across southwest Kansas resist tax hikes but face a 2005 06 school funding shortfall. The court requires funding to reach 285 million for 05-06 and potentially 853 million more to meet adequate education costs, prompting talks of income or sales tax surcharges and gambling as possible revenue paths while fearing tax burdens on residents and economic strain.
