Garden City's Junior Legion faces Meade in exhibition
Garden City's Junior Legion club will host an exhibition game with Meade at 8:30 p.m. Meade, an Independent Legion team, recently defeated Dodge City and is now the league leader. A group of Pennsylvania Boy Scouts en route to Philmont stopped in for a swim at the municipal pool. About 500 people attended last night’s outdoor dance at Finney Park tennis courts sponsored by the recreation commission. City recreation director Herman Beringer said activity peaked around 10 p.m. when roughly 1800 danced before rain threatened the piano and halted the event 30 minutes early. On July 6 Civic Center hosts a dance with Don Conard and his KU orchestra.

Claude Herbert Melcum of 1202 North 18th died yesterday in St Catherine Hospital after a two day hospitalization. A Finney county farmer for 22 years he was born May 26 1898 at Stafford. Surviving are two brothers Lloyd and Vern and an aunt Stella Dunlap. Funeral rites 10 am Saturday at Garland chapel with Rev James Otis Pearce officiating. burial in Scott City cemetery.
