The Filipino American Association of Southwest Kansas hosts Filipino American Friendship Day on July 5 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Meade Lake. The event features a second quarter membership meeting followed by a Filipino cuisine banquet and fellowship with participants from Kansas Texas Oklahoma and Nebraska. Rev. The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a pilot resurfacing project in early July on 32 miles of K 156 from the west junction with K 23 in Finney County to the US 283 junction at Jetmore in Hodgeman County. Crews will add asphalt outside the white line, grind rumble strips, and place rock outside the line from Jetmore westward. Drivers should heed warning signs and slow down in work zones.

July 10 setup 30 p.m. viewing 9 30 p.m. to midnight features Mars Saturn Jupiter and Ganymede with a July 11 make-up. A district magistrate ruled there is not enough evidence to charge two Garden City men with attempted second degree murder in a June 13 beating of Manuel Ayala. Jose Herrera and Alvaro Enriquez saw charges reduced to aiding a felon with bonds set at 70,000 and 80,000 respectively. a third suspect, Amaur Vasquez, faces attempted second degree murder charges.
The Wichita County Sheriff's Office probes a 9 year old who allegedly brought two loaded hand guns to the Wichita County swimming pool. The guns were confiscated by a pool manager and were not loaded when the sheriff arrived at about 3 pm. The guns had been loaded earlier, ownership and gender are under investigation, and the case is sent to County Attorney Laura Lewis for review.
