Garden City fire station idea rejected by commission
Garden City officials debated renovating the former Pepsi Cola building for a downtown fire station. Dave Elsey proposed a total cost of 145 750 dollars, but Commissioner Frank Schmale said the plan was abandoned due to low ceilings and tight proximity to an alley and 9th Street. The commission instead voted 3 to 2 to build a new station southwest of the city administrative center facing 9th Street, with Mayor Duane West and Gary Fuller opposing the renovation.
