Extension Aid Asked for Kansas Counties
TOPEKA AP The Board of Regents urged the 1963 legislature to boost farm extension funding with a general fund $137,710 annual appropriation or allow raising the counties tax ceiling. With 62 of 105 counties unable to sustain the minimum program of one agent and one home demonstration agent, 25 counties risk losing the 4-H extension leader without more money. Kansas State University President James A. McCain warned delays push counties toward losing an agent unless funds rise. The last session considered $138,710 or higher tax limits but took no action.
