Banda Aims for Bonded First Court Appearance in Drug Case
Shona Banda, a local medicinal marijuana advocate, faced multiple drug charges and a child endangerment count in Finney County District Court. In a brief session Judge Ricklin Pierce forwarded the case to Chief Judge Wendel Wurst. Banda’s next hearing is set for 9 a.m. August 24. She appeared with attorney Sarah Swain and had posted a $50,000 surety bond. Attendance at the hearing was light compared with her surrender earlier.

City approves power supply contracts to expand capacity
The Garden City Commission approved power supply contracts with Kansas City Power and Light Associated Electric Cooperative Inc Heartland Consumers Power District and Kansas Municipal Energy Agency to secure reliable capacity for retail load. JK Energy Consultants described plans to extend contracts and add 15 to 20 megawatts of base load capacity with Heartland EMEA and Sunflower responses. Fixed prices will cover about 80 percent of energy needs, reducing volatility while remaining supply may come from the open market or the Jameson Energy Center at peak times.

Governor aims to cut 50 million in state budget
