Utah flood destroys family camp and claims multiple youths
A major flash flood on the Duchesne River in northeastern Utah ripped a 50 mile path of destruction sweeping away three Brown children and a family friend during a camping trip. Bradley Gale Brown, 4, drowned while Hickie Lee Brown, 8, Steven Ferris, 5, and Robert Timmons, 16, were pulled from the torrent. Steven survived and a second, nearby dam breach threatened an earthen dam near Lander Wyoming prompting swift emergency work. Damaged roads, bridges and a ranger station followed as heavy weekend rains swelled the Little Deer Creek and other waterways. Snow and storms affected Colorado trails and a Springer New Mexico thunderstorm brought two inches of rain.
