House GOP Rejects Withdrawal Deadline in Iraq Vote
In a charged session, the House rejected a withdrawal deadline as Democrats criticized the move as politics. Despite bipartisan pressure, 42 Democrats joined with most Republicans to back the resolution, while others declined to vote. The motion followed a Senate rejection of a year-end troop withdrawal and comes amid rising casualties and costs in Iraq. The debate underscores election-year risk as Republicans seek to portray opponents as unsupportive of troops.
