Garden City hosts KABIE tour missing western Kansas rep
Members of the Kansas Agriculture Business Industry and Education Tour arrived yesterday but rain forced a picnic indoors at Luau Inn. Dr. Leroy Hood notes past picnics where flies and fogging caused chaos. Vera Hargett Montezuma and Helen Sturgeon Hugoton are among the western Kansas teachers featured, with Sturgeon pursuing Kansas photo stops such as Garden City’s old sugar plant and the state buffalo herd. Tour director Leon Decker warns Garden City to supply a local teacher next year or risk losing the visit, with Liberal officials promising to sponsor two if needed.
