Dorothy’s House opens in Liberal Kansas with Wizard of Oz homage
Kansas Gov. John Carlin and dignitaries dedicated a replica of Dorothy’s house beside the Seward County Coronado Museum as part of a tourism push. The original pioneer home was donated by Robert Rice and renovated to resemble the movie set with a stove, storm cellar, and wall photos. Hazel Resmondo, a munchkin in the film, joined Carlin and Secretary Jack Brier in the ceremony, while Stephanie Bean sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Roberts' action a money saver for grain industry
Washington First District Congressman Pat Roberts pushed an amendment to the 1981 farm bill to cut administrative costs of the Federal Grain Inspection Service by 3.2 million dollars. He argued the change would reduce bureaucracy while maintaining inspection quality and timeliness, noting Kansas grain inspection costs and excess payroll for paperwork.
